Trap Installation Orientation
Переглядів 2,7 тис.2 роки тому
While thermodynamic/disc traps operate well on both horizontal and vertical piping, mechanical and thermostatic traps come with restrictions. If installed in the wrong orientation, operation can be unstable or allow steam leaks. For maximum operating efficiency in any orientation, consider TLV’s QuickTrap® or QuickStation™ series for simple trap installation of traps matching your steam applica...

Best Practices for Mitigating Steam Locking
Переглядів 1,9 тис.2 роки тому
Steam locking can cause condensate to back-up in equipment, adversely affecting heating temperature, product quality, and production efficiency. To prevent steam locking, take one or more of the following countermeasures: 1. Inspect and resolve issues with piping configuration. 2. Install a bypass line to allow steam to bypass the trap. 3. Install traps with built-in needle valves or lock relea...

    Aside from operator rounds, do you know of any way to monitor for these upset events? I'm thinking some sort of vibration monitoring or position transmitters on hangers or piping. Thoughts?

    • @TLVinternational
      @TLVinternational 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment Jason. Call us old fashioned, but we generally go with "prevention is better than the cure", by removing condensate from the line with the right trap selection and installation. That aside, regular spot checks on operator rounds and regular plant surveys can be supplemented by data collected by ultrasonic sensors, which use the same principle as our TrapMan technology. If you'd like to know more, please get in touch with an engineer! www.tlv.com/global/US/contact-us/contact-form.html

    How did you calculate the 137,000 BTUs lost to the atmosphere? I calculated 86.8 lb/hr of flash steam. Which would mean each pound of steam has 1578 BTUs?

    how trap lift condensate ?? whats is the main reason behind this??

    • @TLVinternational
      @TLVinternational 2 роки тому

      Sorry for the late reply. If we're talking about TLV's GT series PowerTraps (shown in the condensate drainage package in this video), then it works like this: the trap allows condensate to accumulate inside the body, the condensate level rises and lifts the lever float. When the lever float reaches the top, it triggers the snap-action unit, which opens the motive medium inlet, allowing compressed air, steam, etc (your motive medium) to enter. At the same time, the steam trap in the bottom of the PowerTrap opens. With the increased pressure in the top of the chamber, the condensate is discharged, overcoming the back pressure and lifting it. This obviously depends on the back pressure in the outlet line.

    dear sir , how much pressure drop between a ball float steam trap?? and 2 phase condensate lift after discharge from the steam trap???

    • @TLVinternational
      @TLVinternational 2 роки тому

      Thank you for the comment, sir! The pressure drop will depend on the back pressure in the outlet line, but you can get a good idea by looking at the maximum differential pressure for each orifice size of the free float steam trap. This article might also be useful as a reference: www.tlv.com/global/TI/steam-theory/trap-back-pressure.html

    It would be nice to see the pressure data because it looks like the water falling in the riser could be severe even with the drop down loop. I know it says non-ideal but it would be nice to see the pressure fluctuation data. Awesome video regardless
